Finally Upgrading--Need Some Modem Advice

I'm finally making a change from my shitty internet service, to something (that will hopefully be) much better.  The company said I could either lease one of their modems or buy one of my own. I've decided to buy, of course. So for those of you with experience, what's the best cable modem I can get--something powerful enough for hosting MCC nights, somewhat easy to use/troubleshoot, and something that will work dependably?

Ha.

Maybe that's how he's so good, he's bridging 7 hosts.

Just go on amazon, make sure the router is compatible with your ISP and picked the highest rated one at the price you are willing to spend.

Which is great, but A) I'm looking for personal accounts from Halo players or people who play with large numbers of people online and know what's reliable, and B) Reviews aren't always solid--a good number of companies pay customers (or make ghost accounts) and 5-star their own products to get rep and front page placement.

Plus, I need one TODAY, and Amazon doesn't have 4 hour shipping.

Really all you described is how good your ISP package should be, not the modem. A nice modem will help those things, but most of the time its simply about the package you bought from your ISP.

If you have cable get one of these

I had one for a while and it did me good, only thing is it only had one ethernet port so I switched out back to my UBEE

You need to check your ISP's website to ensure the modem you are purchasing is compatible with their service. That being said, I recommend the ARRIS SURFboard SB6121; I picked this up earlier this year to avoid paying a rental fee and it's worked beautifully.

Well, I bought a surfboard, but the technician said the modem speed was too high--the modem goes up to 1600 MBPS, but since the service is up to 105 MBPS, he said that it would be even slower. That makes NO fucking sense to me. Is that true?

Ok, I switched out and bought a new modem, and it works great for the devices downstairs(24 MBPS), but upstairs is a different story(.8 MBPS).

Should I get a Wi-Fi extender or an additional router?

As soon as you can, guys--not to bitch, but I don't want the moneyback window to close on me unless I'm sure this stuff is gonna work.
.........everybody?

First of all, that "technician" you spoke to is an absolute moron. Second, I'd recommend buying a WiFi extender from Amazon. Read the reviews, try it out. Worst case scenario is you have 30 days to return it for a refund.

Good luck.

Thank you.

I'll see what I can find and what works well.
