Looking for Two New Moderators

Hi Folks,

Since moving to the new site we've lost a lot of activity from much of our previous staff. There are plenty of potential reasons why this may be, some of which I discuss here: Some Personal Thoughts on the Current State of THF

With this in mind, I have decided to wipe the slate clean (mostly) and give everyone that is active on the new site a chance to join THF's moderating and editing staff.  Based on our current levels of posts and threads per day, I have decided to fill 2 moderator spots at this time. Our moderating staff at this time consists of the following:

The two additional mods will bring our total staff to 5, which is, at this moment, plenty to manage our current level of activity. In the future, should our overall content creation levels rise, I will look to add more moderators accordingly.

I will personally be choosing the two new mods. In general, I'll be considering each person's history within the community, but also their current levels of engagement, as well as their overall level of maturity. I will reach out personally to all candidates that I'm considering to give them a better idea of what their role would be, as well as to give me a chance to gage each individual's level of enthusiasm and goals.

My goal is to build a team of people who are devoted to helping push our community forward and be readily available to highlight content within our community and the Halo community at large. If you are someone who has high availability, loves our community, and wants to help, please apply!

How to Apply

Simply reply in this thread with your interest. Tell me why you'd make a good moderator. That's about it. I'll contact individuals under consideration directly via PM.

A Note to Previous Mods

This is not a swipe at any of you, thank you all very much for your time and effort, both on the previous site and on the new one. With that said, I feel that it is in the best interest of the site to re-assess who is the most interested in helping our community survive. Any previous mods are absolutely eligible to apply for moderator-ship again.

I was considering asking you if you needed anyone to help approve submissions for the video archive. I'm pretty active since I have times throughout the day were I can just check up on the site. I could also keep track of front page requests and tage releases if you need that. I wouldn't say I'd be a good choice to write up any articles though. I just want to try to be helpful, since I want this community to succeed. I've put a lot of time in this site like you and many others have before and I care about this place and those that frequent it.

Like Thomas said, keeping an eye out for things to be front paged is key and having an active member to do that would benefit the site a lot.

I'd also be interested in posting articles if need be. I love this community and I really want to see Halo pushed further and further. I work a job where I'm on a computer so I'm able to check this site out a lot throughout the day. I am glad to be a VIP on this site already and help with as much as I can having that status, and I would love to help even more!

Thanks for your interest guys. I'll reach out to both of you soon.

I would probably be one of the least qualified in terms of forum knowledge and activity, mainly due to my job, but I'm generally online for a few hours a day, often later because I'm in the Alaskan Time Zone. I've always loved this forum, and now I have a kind of dedication to it's well being simply because I have known no other my entire life. I'm a Sergeant in the Army with 4 years of service, I also have a wife and 2 kids. That being said, my job and family take time out of my schedule, but in terms of fairness and discretion they have taught me much.

I'm probably not the best fit for a moderator, but I hope to be of assistance in some manner or another.

Pick me pick me!
I'd absolutely love to help, especially in terms of video management/behavioral issues, etc. Send me a message if you're interested!
Yeah I'll be a mod.

look @Thomas, jumping at the first chance. What a queer

ill be a mod of CoT and any other forum that doesn't include halo.

My main qualification:
poop schedule you could set a watch to

I was actually thinking the other day that I wouldn't mind being a mod and this thread pops up :) I'm getting my degree online so I am literally at my computer all day every day meaning my availability is like 24/7. I can help Rvid and the other mod with frontpaging, keeping stuff in line in the halo sections and just generally trying to keep the forum active. So, yeah pick me pls:)

You lost staff activity because there's nothing to moderate and the rules were changed to a very hands off approach. You're busy, hadn't seen slater post in months, and occasionally see rvideo post... Mods didn't need or have much access or direction with the new site. We were left in the dark and got notice on updates along with regular members.

Personally, I don't see the need for mods with the description you're looking for. You, slater, and rvideo are the ones running things behind the scene with vip input. Not much is going to change with adding two mods.

Not upset with the change, there's literally nothing to moderate in terms of being a moderator, just wish there was more communication and attention on the forum itself. I hope you get what you're looking for and it helps the site.

Aside from me being busy with real life shit as well, MsTk is right.  There is literally nothing for us to do around here, and there was never a content strategy in place with the new site.  Besides the montage contest, this new site has had nothing to support it or make it even worth making a new one in the first place.  It looks more modern, but in terms of content and community go, we are on the bottom of the list for the popular Halo communities.

I know we had huge plans for the website months before it finally came into fruition, but with you being gone and timelines becoming question marks, it really hasn't turned out the way any of us had in mind (at least from what I've seen).

Hope ya find what you're looking for  and we can turn this place around a bit.  :)

I might start editing my posts in older threads with gifs of bestiality and murder, give you guys something to do

Maybe to clarify what "moderator" means for the new forum.

Mods used to be able to do things like temporarily ban members (or permanently), remove images, access all sections, and for the super mods they were able to change emails (for account recovery for members who left years ago and forgot their email logins) and other things like that. Just pointing this out for anyone who is interested because your abilities will be limited to essentially posting content and basic thread management.

A moderator's venue in the new forum is greatly diminished, or at least has a different meaning. I think what he is looking for are content managers, not moderators.  My "moderator menu" is severely limited and with Slater gone, the only actual "mod" (in the way you would think of a mod on VBulletin) left is nVincible himself.

So just wanted to mention this because its a lot different that it used to be.

I would love to help out the new site as much as i could and would be honored to apply, But sadly i woulnt be able to commit to this. Hopefully you guys find the help you need.

Part of being a mod (in my eyes at least), means being active. You're actually one of the few that have stayed active. But to your point, there's not much need for post or thread moderation, and let's be honest, there wouldn't have been much need on the old site aside from the fact that we needed people to kill bot spam.

Personally, I don't see the need for mods with the description you're looking for. You, slater, and rvideo are the ones running things behind the scene with vip input. Not much is going to change with adding two mods.

I'm looking for people that are willing to invest time into the site and promote its content. The thing is, despite what RVideo seems to think, every one of the mods has had the same exact powers as Slater had when he was still around, but nobody bothered to utilize those abilities. That was the entire point of the beta, which very few participated in, with even fewer actually reading my instructional articles on how to do things. There's literally no excuse for the front page content to have died off.

Wrong, see my last statement above. There was a content strategy, there were extensive instructions written on how to publish, what to publish, etc. And again, I can not single handedly manage both the site, the community, and the content. That's why I need active moderators.

I know we had huge plans for the website months before it finally came into fruition, but with you being gone and timelines becoming question marks, it really hasn't turned out the way any of us had in mind (at least from what I've seen).

What timelines? We launched the site to coincide with the final round of the competition, and we pulled it off. Aside from that, there are no more timelines. I'm putting out new features as fast as my schedule can allow for it, but I've never set any timelines around those things. I literally have no idea what you're referring to.

If we need to ban a member, then talk to me about it. So far there's been no need (remember, most of our "bans" on the old site were simply dealing with bots, a problem we no longer have because of the new site). You can still remove images, and access all sections of the site. The only limitations you have now by comparison is the ability to edit user profile information.

Mods have the ability to edit/delete posts, merge threads, move threads, almost all of the forum related management tools that existed before. They just might exist in a slightly different form, to which I say, adapt. Learn how to use the software, it's really not difficult. Explore the site and figure out how to use it. Nobody was there showing you how to use VBulletin in the beginning, you guys just figured it out. Do the same here.

I might start editing my posts in older threads with gifs of bestiality and murder, give you guys something to do

Actually, don't delete those.

laugh

I didn't see any of that stuff. But then again I hopped on and started posting in another country+trying to get used to the new layout and felt eons behind. It took me forever to figure out there were groups and how to get into them. Made me feel so old, lol.

I do hope you get the mods you're looking for. Miss slaters mark being around here too.

You know what would be great though in terms of content? If a certain clan that took 75% of the content creators left in this community and actually helped promote THF. Just a thought though.

I love it how you took that as whining. It's just pretty obvious that you guys need this place to even get views and for the other views that aren't on this site you could at least advertise it to them and help out this place. Unless you guys just don't care about it which is perfectly fine as well. Just a thought as I said.

It was only a joke.

But most members on LiT will always put a THF intro before their videos and we also have like 4 VIPs on the team. I'm on LiT and I also run the THF Twitter and help out here regularly. And so have many others on LiT have done as well.

As far as content goes, nothing we've done has changed as far as promotion of this site. We still use the THF intros in our videos with a couple exceptions, and no one individually has altered the way they make their own content for their own channels other than adding the lost in time intro to some of their videos. I'm unsure what we're "Not" doing that every other video maker "Is" doing to promote THF.  We still post all our videos here and engage in discussion about our content as well as posting in threads that contain content from other players. Literally nothing has changed except a group chat on skype to get games together and an extra logo/intro at the beginning of videos. Your forced distaste for myself and our group is pointless. Of all the things wrong with the forum and it's promotion, i think it's absolutely insane that you would see fit to single us out as the problem in the equation. The reason why we "represent 75% of content creators from thf" is because people actually want to be a part of a positive movement and rise above the petty, insignificant bullshit that people like you can't seem to avoid. Furthermore a number of the remaining 25% have asked to join/expressed interest in joining lost in time - there's a reason for that: We want to actually do shit, not sit on this forum and point fingers and make judgments and waste time. Whether that includes more heavily promoting this forum is up to RVideo and NV1 and whoever else works this site. Personally, I've never had any problem doing things content-wise for the forum and always have my ear open from Stobs or anyone else from the THF channel looking for a unique upload. I'll continue to have my ears open for any ideas on that front.

Your mission to bad mouth us and nit pick our content at every turn is tiresome. You're the exact type of member that makes us question whether we should continue promoting this site at all in the first place: constant negativity with no logical basis. I've made a genuine effort to clean my posting up and try and foster a vibe that supports content while continuing to give constructive feedback, as always. Maybe you should do the same because the finger pointing grows tiresome. You can keep bitching and moaning constantly about LIT this and LIT that and BLAH BLAH BLAH, but nothing productive is going to come from that. As always, we're just here to play halo, have fun and make content for the community. You can get behind that or you can't. Have a nice night.

Wait sk0ls, explain how I've bad mouthed your guys' content? Or done LiT this or LiT that? I think the most negative thing I've said on a LiT video was "too much RSMB or why was that clip in it", which was said yesterday. Is it because I don't like you, is that why you think I don't like your guys content?

I think I've literally stated on every video that it was an enjoyable watch.

Lets be real though, go and look at your videos, from my memory, almost none of the videos use a THF intro besides like VH/Doodles (again my memory)

Edit: I take it back, the new vids have been using it

scott for god

Honestly really interested. I'd be willing to clean up my language and interactions with everyone in general and filter myself a lot more. Would be a decent thing to throw on a resume in my opinion. I'm definitely one of the most active members on here as of lately but I understand if I don't qualify because of the arrogance I've been know to show. I'd turn over a new leaf if I was given an opportunity though, I love this forum and everyone on it are pretty damn good people.

With the exception of Wanny.

All jokes aside I think I could be a very viable asset around here. I'd definitely have no issue articulating myself in a proper and professional matter if that's what you're lookin for. Definitely shoot me a PM if I even have the slightest chance of possibly becoming a moderator.

I'm mainly concerned with the forums themselves but I'm willing to put in the time and effort to learn how to manage the content pages. Heck, I'll be having a decent amount of free time on my hands since I'm taking a break from extracurricular activities as well so I wouldn't mind typing up articles and stuff. I also have a pretty decent relationship with current professional players and I'm sure I could harass a bunch of them to start pushing this brand/site out there to compete with Team Beyond since I'm assuming that's the end game here.

Sorry for the fat wall of quote text, I didn't wanna delete a certain part of the quote and have a busted looking post.

We definitely have options as to where we can take this site though, it's honestly a pretty good lookin website if you ask me and the possibilities are endless if people are really down to band together and put in some leg work around here.

@Hyena, @Spence, @Muhzzy, and @Thomasxp5 have been added to the "Editors" team, which means they will have the ability to make front page announcements, articles, and approve video submissions.

@Smuttny is going to stay on as part of the moderating team, so at this point I'm only looking for one more.

I humbly accept the position of admin

i'd be a great mod.

- i'm not that active so you know i won't take sides

- have you seen my post count?people would never expect it, it'd be like an undercover cop: keeping the streets clean from the inside.

- i have 7 count it 7 halo 2 montages

- every time my girlfriend tells me "dave you are never going to take those groceries in with one trip" i prove that bitch wrong

If you rarely post, no offense, how often do you lurk?

Everybody hates me so I'm on the same non-bias status.
