Holy shit that was close. Congrats to Hyena!

Also, really didn't expect that many votes. Thanks to everyone who supported me throughout the contest! Really happy I made it this far with what was probably my last big project in Halo.

This means so much to me, thank you those who voted, and congratulations to the other finalists and participants, THF4ever
congrats guys <3 three of my fav videos from the comp

Very close!

Congrats to all!

Wow this is great. What a great contest!

Damn, I can literally say that my vote influenced this contest to the point that I chose the winner.

Take notes, America.

Congrats to everyone! :)

Congratulations to everyone and thank you to those who submitted!

Amazing how close this was! Although I didn't vote Wizard in the final, I'm happy that it won. GJ Beau <3

Edit: Also thrilled that Trev and LLB won most original. Not sure about the other two awards but I'll think about those

I was hoping Take That, Summer Colours, or GC's video wuda got best edited but Bsiks video was extremely fuckin smooth on the editing side so I aint mad. Congrats Beau, you really deserved this one. And Bsik idk who you are but yo you are dope, 1 vote away from taking the comp with a CE vid that was amazing. And Ingenuity def makes sense for most OG.  Anyways, I didn't compete, but I had the pleasure of watching this comp go down. Thanks to THF and the people involved, that was was great guys.
NV you should make a front page announcement post.

man that was so close , congrats ...when is the next competition need more videos of this quality more often?!?

Congrats to everyone! :)

Seriously though. I switched my vote like three times.

GG WP boiz.

Congrats Beau!

Congrats to everybody!
Congratulations to all the winners! I really wanted to see B take the big win, but I can't be mad about these results. Beau, you deserve this.

Congrats are in order to Hyena!

I wanted Joey to come away, but Hyena you got em! GG and keep up the good work dude!

Congrats to everyone!  Top 3 were all fantastic and the voting bears out how close this was.  Very happy to see Ingenuity take home the Most Original category, well deserved.

Congratulated Beau in the other thread before noticing this one. Well-deserved, and there's no doubt about that. I really wish more people would have voted, but it is what it is.

I have to agree with NoobSlayer on the decision to put B Sik's video as best edit. I'm as big a promoter of B Sik as anyone because I thought he had the 1st-2nd best montage in the entire comp next to Death Machine. But he didn't deserve the editing category imo. 2 of the considerations Andreas mentioned (Summer Colors and Take That) as well as RT's and Double A's edit for Keat were not only better, but vastly superior objectively.

It really isn't a big deal though and I'm pretty fkn indifferent about it tbh. It almost feels like people don't really want to here opinions like this at this point, and they just want this comp to have its last hoorah and be done with it.  But I thought those four, and especially Take That (who got criminally eliminated in the first round) and RT's, deserved to get their due recognition for being the true contenders in that category. I just don't see how anyone can watch Take That and CE, and then think CE is a better edit. It's just borderline delusional to me to think that CE has better "editing" (emphasis on best "edit" and not just subjective taste in "video presentation" - critical difference to me). I can't over-emphasize enough how it really isn't even fucking close, and I don't care which four you pick.

Also, I thought Hyena was a judge right? Aren't judges excluded from winning sub-categories like best gameplay? Again, not that it really matters since I would have given that shit to Death Machine if it were up to me.

Hate to be such an ass, but somebody had to do it.

Amazing competition.
Hyena was indeed a judge, but he left his own submissions blank. That's fair play IMO.

Straight up, I'm still completely overwhelmed with the amount of support that I've received on this montage. I am unfortunately pressed for time at the moment but I would really like to write up a longer post when I'm able to (crunching on a work project). Regardless if any of you are interested or not I do plan on getting back to this later with some thoughts on the competition and some thanks that are due.

In short for now, a huge congratulations to Halz, Hyena, Joey and Fatal on a great competition and the absolutely phenomenal videos that were created. A huge thank you to Nv1 for putting this together and seeing it through to the end despite the community, myself included, jumping on your back about this. With no disrespect to Joey and Fatal, for me personally, there is no better team than Halz and Hyena, and there is nobody else in this community that is more deserving than these two. Thanks so much for all of those who submitted a video and those that supported each and every bracket with their votes. I'm looking forward to writing more soon™.

Awesome competition guys! These contests bring the best of the best content, hopefully we will see another contest in the future!

As I said in the main Finals thread, Beau deserves this award more than anyone. I don't think Wizard was the best vid, but its creator(s) is possibly the best who made it into the finals. So congrats to all involved.

Not sure how I feel about Wizard for best GP or B Sik for best editing, though I do see the "invisibility" of the editing as a potential reason for its win. I get that in film and TV and such, good editing is invisible, but I feel like for Halo videos in 2016, the edit is kinda integral to the video. Congrats to trev and behr tho, the originality is well deserved on that.

Super strong entries all around, and what a way to go out for THF movie comps. I know I'll be back to watch every single entry, they won't soon be forgotten.

Congrats to everyone, especially Hyena. Definitely a very very well deserved win.

I do have to agree with Sucky and others regarding the best editing prize. B Sik's video was definitely extremely polished and smooth, so props to him for that. I think we really ought to be collectively asking ourselves if that's the type of editing we want to reward at this point though. I feel like there's been an enormous drought of originality on the editing side of things in the past 2 years or so - just look at this comp versus 2014s. There were definitely a few well edited videos this year, but in 2014 there were at least a dozen extremely original and interesting videos from really talented editors.

I guess I just think if we continue going down this path things are going to get stale really fast. For me personally I can hardly sit through most Halo videos these days. These games have been out for as much as 15 years, and there's hardly anything new under the sun. I'm really glad Hyena won, because I think he's one of the few people still innovating. But I think most people aren't, and I think you need innovation on either the gameplay side or the editing side (preferably both) to keep things interesting.

Additionally, having a scene that fosters creative editing is going to make sure we can continue as a community. How many new editors have popped up in the last 3 years? Hardly any. Go back and look at the Novus editing contest that was ran a few years back, you'll see something like 30 entries with a majority from really new editors. How many new editors can you list today? I think there's been maybe like 2-3 editors who have popped up since then. A huge part of that is 343s games are horrible games to edit, but we should also work to create a community that fosters creativity and innovation, in my opinion anyway.

That's my 2 cents, no disrespect to anyone intended. Congrats to the winners again.

Even though im not saying that Wizard didn't have best gp, i have to disagree on the fact that just because he didn't rank his own submission it is fair by default to be eligible for the subcategory awards. One can have a higher standard, and thus rank the other videos with lower than average ranks, and so increase his own chances. Not saying that happened, but your argument on why it is fair is not valid imo. And im aware of the fact that the influence on the final result would be minimal, but that would also be the case if he did rank his own videos 'better bevause they were his'. Also, if those where actually the rules, putting "Judges MAY enter videos but they will not be eligible for any sub category awards." in the rules is also not the smartest move. You can expect some backfire then.

Anyhow, congrats to all the winning videos. Wizard was my vote, glad to see he pulled it even though it was, as expected, very close.

I can see both sides of it. Beau being such a prominent figure makes it easy for me to excuse it.

As far as the rules go, lol. Nv1 probably didn't look at them.

Fair points.

Because Beau did not rate his own videos, I determined the ratings for all videos to be valid. Beau didn't deserve to have his judging scores for all other videos thrown out simply because he was a judge. I do not believe he would have ever intentionally adjusted his scoring of other entries simply to give himself a better chance, and as one of the most longstanding and highest contributing members of this community (in Halo content terms), I believe I'm justly giving him the benefit of the doubt.

And because of all that, I don't see a reason that he or any other judge would be excluded from winning a subcategory.

Congrats to the top 3. You guys made it very far and should be proud no matter your final placing.

I voted for B SiK. Wizard was a close second for me, but the top two were much closer than i thought they would be.

Again, congrats to the final 3 and specifically Hyena!

Didn't say it wasn't in this case, i agree he deserves it (both for the video and for his contribution outside of the comp). Just didn't agree with the fact that just because someone didn't rank his own videos it meant he wouldn't (couldn't) influence the outcome and it would thus by default be fair. But even if he ranked his own videos as well, and did so unfairly, the influence on the final results would still be minimal, just like if he only ranked the other videos unfairly. So imo the extra 'no ranking your own submissions' rule doesn't really do much besides making it appear to be more fair, instead of actually making it more fair. Could have just let them enter anyway, or not at all.

No, I think it's reasonable to assume that it's much harder to be impartial (when it comes to scoring) on a video you were a part of than it is to be impartial scoring a video that you weren't a part of. So I disagree, not having Beau score his own videos is actually more fair, and not just perceptually so.

Congrats guys!

B SiK winning best editing is pretty stupid. It was a clean video but nothing unique or special about the editing.

I guess I cant complain since I was suppose to be a judge but went MIA.

Being that it is actually in the rules I do agree with Tarzan that it is a bit unfair to go back on that rule. I was thinking that Scace and I only added that rule when we brought it over to HiB, but it's definitely in this version as well.

That being said, was there a close second, Nv1? Maybe the scores were so far and above for Wizard that it wouldn't make sense to even bother going to 2nd place.

I'm impartial and can see both sides of the argument here. If it weren't explicitly in the rules I would agree with Nv1, especially since it's Hyena we are talking about here and we all know he wouldn't do anything to influence the contest in any way. All in all, I feel like it is a bit of an odd move to break one of the very few rules of the contest.

I don't think Hyena would have done anything unfair and he is generally supportive of the community in terms of gameplay, but rules is rules.

Thanks for pointing this out. This is from the original article that Slater posted when we announced the competition, so I had forgotten about some of the details within it.

The runner up to Wizard for best gameplay is Combat Evolved. I'll reach out to Hyena, Halzred, and B SiK privately to resolve this.
