Hello there H3F community, I am here seeking any and all help to improve my DMR.
Long story short I was really into Halo 3 and my BR was very solid. I felt extremely confident with it. I stopped playing Reach after about 1 month of its release because I just didn't like the feel of the game. I am now trying to get back into the Halo scene but every game I go into I just plain suck. I know it's a combination of bad decision making, adjusting to a new game, bad teamwork, and a bad DMR but I'm trying to get better. I think improving my DMR is the first step to getting better and I need some advice. What are some things I should try doing to improve my DMR? I'm looking for ALL advice ranging from complicated things to the simplest of adjustments. Thanks. |

What's your style/tendencies at long range/medium/short?
High sensitivities require twitching, and you'll be spamming up close or while they're running away. Pace your shots at range and be ready to move your crosshair as you land a shot to position for the next. The smooth aim makes it hard to hardscope/"sway" your stick so I recommend twitching (knock down to a lower sensitivity if you're over-swinging at higher rates). Jump shooting at a distance while strafing and laying off the right stick is a good tip. Don't always try to aim with that one. Positioning is obviously contextual but key as you know. The better positions you're in and times you decide to engage are just as important as your shot. Don't try to challenge everyone with 5 shots because this game's deaths are much slower compared to the BR kill. Hope you have good teammates that put shots on guys and you'll mostly be cleaning up, not engaging full shielded opponents. If you see more than 2 people, it's almost a sealed deal to back off -- you can't really overwhelm multiple players as in previous games unless they have shots, so stay back unless you're being sneaky. Finish your kills! Hope that stuff helps you. |

Cant stress how important it is to keep cool and pace your shots, unless they are just outside of your beatdown range, in which it is a good idea to go trigger happy.I wouldn't worry too much about getting better with bloom, unless you like it. A lot of people will be using the non-bloom settings soon enough.

After experimenting for the past year with all levels of speed with spam, I've come to a conclusion: it doesn't matter how much you spam. I've seen single-digit onyx players go full spam and I've seen equally skilled players go full-pace. In the end, you win some, you lose some. It's not like H3 where the better player/connection wins, it's a lot more random.
What you need to do is just choose a style that is the least frustrating to you. It's a "best of the worst" type of scenario. Personally, I've found that I'd rather pace and be beaten by a lucky spammer every once in a while than to choose to spam and have people not die after 10+ shots randomly. Some people feel the opposite... Other than that: - Practice. - Crouching offers a huuuge benefit to your bloom reset. - Always zoom at long-range battles. Even if your opponent keeps knocking you out of scope, just keep zooming in before each shot. - Heck, if the guy isn't looking and you know nobody is going to sneak up on you, go ahead and zoom at medium-range too. You can shoot far quicker as there is more of the opponent in the screen at once. |

Trying to loom every shot is very hard at higher sensitivities and any chance you have to zoom in should not necessarily be the case. It helps to strafe shoot and be out of zoom, and practice getting all that better with medium-distance strafe shooting. You should only be zoom shooting in these instances: 1) Opponent is across the map 2) Opponent is medium range and not looking at you/sprinting 3) Opponent is not looking at you long range Doing it outside of these instances is begging the opponent to take the advantage, whichever they get. Crouch shooting is great though, implement it into your strafe and tactics. |

I can tell you need help with aim rather than should you pace shots or not. Play on a low sensitivity, I recommend 3. Dont worry about your strafe or anything. Use your left stick for most of your aim and use the right stick to just make slight adjustments in your aim while shooting. Try not to get in 1v1 situations which is the biggest rookie move and everyone thinks to be a good player you need to "out dmr" everyone. The only time you should get in 1v1 fights is if its absolutely needed. Focus on staying alive and ALWAYS knowing where teammates are and the shot will come.
