This post is full of win, but unfortunately won't change much. I think most (at least 95%) makers and editors aren't creative. A lot of the big name makers have their own styles. If you are looking to get 'known,' copying someone else and doing a worse job is absolutely NOT the way to go. AAE text + spartan(s) walking/standing around + kid's GT + rock music = unoriginal boring intro. To anyone who thinks that all the ideas are gone, they DEFINITELY are not. Oxfire has a huge point of being creative. Sometimes people try to be original and fail, other times they succeed. I'm sure you can think of examples of each. It's worth the risk IMO. Playing it safe rarely gets you anywhere.
As far as the overdone style of editing, I can't stand it. My current favorite edited H3 montages are the ones with NO editing. (IMO that's pretty sad) All the big vids in H3 right now I can't rewatch because of the editing jobs. Not to say the editors don't have skill or talent, but I want to be able to SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING.
Editing is meant to enhance gameplay, not cover it up. I see no enhancement when there's flashes and blurs and shakes for every clip. They lose their value when they are in the majority of the vid and just become annoying. It's like watching an old Schwarzenneger movie where he kills a million people and blows up everything. Blowing up the 50th building or shooting the 100th soldier... whats the point? It loses its value after a while. Yeah, it might be entertaining if I'm drinking, but I can't take it seriously or consider it a good movie.
