Yeah it looks better but it doesn't sound as cool. Before I could always beat people up close with the BR now I can't in H3, but I still prefer it over AR

Well...
AR is a spray and pray weapon meaning you pretty much just barely need to aim to hit a opponent with it and still be highly effective. Br was kinda that in H2 with the increased auto aim now without it up close shot are harder. Mid range i say Br,long range Br and close range Br if your good and strafe AR if you want but its just up to the person.

BR of course, and stay at mid range from your opps as much as possible, that's where BR shines most

As everyone else has said so far, the BR is better for long and mid range; but it has the ability to be an insane close range weapon if the wielder is accurate enough. Since the AR is more for close range then that's what will be used 90% of the time. BR FTW with an AR on my back at all times ^_^
