NFL Discussion Thread

Something about stones and glass houses.
That was one of the worst NFL games I've ever seen... I think if we were going to start firing people we wouldn't even have a franchise left. I had hopes of 8-8, after that Giants lost I thought 7-9... Now I'm just hoping we can get the 1st overall pick lol.
Vernon Davis was just traded to Denver today for a 6th round draft pick in 2016. There's also rumors about Joe Staley being on the trade block, pretty sad year to be a 49ers fan I must say.
As for the 2015 season, I was optimistic when we beat Minnesota (now 5-2) but once we got to the Arizona game, I knew we were in trouble. It all starts with the management though, my man!
anyone's fantasy team get destroyed by this weeks injuries?
between leveon bell and forte, and charles earlier in the season.. blown to pieces :(
I'm in 2 season-long leagues. I'm 6-2 in one league, and 5-3 in another. This week, both of my opponents had QBs that scored 50 points each. Yup, Drew Brees and Eli Manning. The guy with Drew Brees also started Odell Beckham Jr... Needless to say, I lost. I've been relatively lucky with injuries, however. No major losses for me, although I thought Marshawn Lynch was doomed earlier this year.
Gabbert to start... Whoopie. How has Geep Chryst not been fired though? Seriously? If we trade Staley we might as well forfeit every game. No sense in putting anyone behind that line.
I'm a Kap fan and I am happy that Gabbert is starting this week. Many fans are putting the blame solely on Kap and I don't believe that this season is a result of Kap's regression. Benching Kap is going to give Kap time to reflect, show the critics that Kap isn't 100% at fault for every loss, and potentially give Kap a little boost of confidence if Gabbert gets decimated by Atlanta.
Don't get me wrong, Kap has played awful this season. The game against Arizona was abysmal, and his lack of vision really irks me at times. His confidence is clearly shot and benching him is the only option right now given the amount of scrutiny he's under... Even Jerry Rice said Kap should be benched.
Week 10 is our bye so we'll see who starts in Week 11. Who knows though? If Gabbert does well against Atlanta, maybe we'll have a new starting QB for the '16 season. It's unlikely, but at this point, the 49ers need a change.
9ers are just hedging their contract with Kaep, if he gets hurt starting he stands to earn biiiiig. if the 9er dont do shit with him the contract is very friendly, tons of incentives.
I will be truly disappointed if the 49ers decide to part ways with Kap. He's had a lot of success early in his career and while the 2014 season was very disappointing given the amount of talent we had, there was many games in that '14 season which we had hardly lost. Our record could've easily been 10-6 or 11-5 in 2014.
I'm sure people are tired of hearing about our disastrous off-season but honestly, our off-season was probably the worst in NFL history. We lost Jim Harbaugh, 11 starters and just recently traded Vernon Davis over to Denver for two late-round draft picks. Imagine Tom Brady losing Bill Belichick, 11 starters and Gronk getting traded... I think New England would be in trouble.
But Robert Kraft and Jed York are completely different people. You won't see Robert Kraft parting ways with a (winning) head coach. I'm not trying to imply that Harbaugh would've made a significant difference with our 2015 roster but then again, maybe if Harbaugh wasn't let go we wouldn't of lost 11 starters in the off-season. There's a lot more going on in the 49ers organization behind the scenes then we're at liberty to know, just my $0.02.
Players don't like playing for him (York), I think you can draw that conclusion as a casual fan. People always assumed Harbaugh was the problem cuz of his personality. People liked playing for him because of his passion. I really don't see the passion in Tomsula. I'm not just saying that cuz he doesn't stomp his feet and throw his headset around either. Players said they liked playing for both though. We have far too many problems to pin it on one person or one phase of the team. I love my niners to death but we need a near total overhaul. Coaching staff, front office, o-line, D-line, secondary and QB. You can even argue RB, I really don't see the way Hyde running lasting long. I'll give him 3-5 years before he's worthless. Whenever I talk shit about Kaep on /r/49ers I get put on blast. But he's just awful. He runs away from what little coverage we can provide. He can't change the play, he can't go through progressions, no pocket awareness, no accuracy. Literally all he has going for him is his arm strength. There's no coaching staff in place to help him or any new talent coming in. Geep Chryst is fucking awful play caller and Mangini's schemes don't mix well with our personnel so we get lit up constantly, it's a bad fit. OK, /endrant.
Yup, the play calling is awful. It was the same thing last year, too. 3rd and long? Run the ball up the middle against Seattle! When teams don't respect your ability to pass the football, they're going to stack the box. I am a fan of Carlos Hyde though, the kid has heart. The issue is, as I mentioned prior, if teams don't respect your ability to stretch the field, they will prepare for the run. Hyde will only get hurt that way.
Kap, on the other hand, has the tools to become a good QB (strong arm, elusive) but his confidence is clearly shot and he simply isn't comfortable inside the pocket. Kap is 28 now and as they say, old dogs can't learn new tricks. Kap will never be an efficient pocket passer like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady but does he really need to be? He's already played in a super bowl and was pretty close to playing in another one the following year. Not bad.
I'm not saying that Kap is innocent here because he obviously isn't but I just feel as if he isn't being put in the right position to win. Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman knew how to utilize Kap whereas Jim Tomsula and Geep Chryst seem to not have an answer. There's a lot of blame to be spread around for the 2015 season, I'm just hoping we're not in a rebuilding stage for the next 5 years.
Packers have some issues they need to work on.
However, it was good to see them at least make an effort at a comeback (and almost do it). They have played two of the top 5 teams back to back away from home. No Montgomery, Shields, or Randle also doesn't help.
And of course Jordy...
People were saying HaHa, Raji, and Peppers arguing on the sideline showed that they have "issues". I think it shows that dudes are getting pissed that they are getting their ass kicked. Nothing wrong with showing some emotion, fuck you Rodney Harrison
