The Official Poker/Gambling Thread
If you want play money games, just go to Pokerstars. It might get annoying because all anyone does is just go all in every hand (since it's free) until they build a decent bankroll of play money. It's actually funny though, once you're playing with like half a million play money chips, the people take it MORE seriously than real money.
@Ohem: Didn't you say you were trying to step up your game? What skill level are you at and what stakes do you play? Do you ever play live?
nice hand, lol
I usually play NL10(€0.05/€0.10) hold em cash games. I also play a few low buy in tourneys every now and then, along with freerolls.
I wouldn't know what skill level I'm at. I tend to win alot of the time and even double up at times but I'm struggling with letting go of hands and I make a few too many hero calls because I smell bluff.
I think I might switch to PokerStars soon
Well I've always been a tourney guy. I started playing online when I was 12. When I was 13, I won my very first tournament for over a thousand dollars. There were 10,000 entrants too, which is one of the biggest fields you can find. After that, tournaments just became my thing. I'm a way better tournament player than I am cash game player, but I play cash live because it's just way easier to find cash games than tourneys live. Good ones, at least. But I much more enjoy tourneys. I still have the ticket/receipt for the very first live tourney I ever won. There were 173 entrants and it was a $20 buy in. Here it is:
wow, that had to feel good as a 13 year old.
Idk, people seem to play way looser in small buy in tourneys, especially online. that's why I prefer cash games. I know I should just wait for the nuts when people are that loose and play every hand, all in etc. but man, I get annoyed fast at that shit
switching to PS right now btw
I often think what my life would be like if Black Friday never happened. I was in my 1st year away from away at college and made some deep runs on PS and created a pretty large bankroll. Here are my stats from 2011

Yeah you're telling me. A10 can't call in that spot. That was probably 30 percent of his stack or more. Maybe he can. But me being UTG or UTG plus one.. it's kind of loose. AJ can only call in that spot if A10 doesn't. No way you're getting an all in, a smooth call then you also call with that
You're calling a 15BB stack witb that knowing you are either super dominated or have one over and still have like 7 people behind you? That's a bit loose IMO
Are you though? 15BBs isn't a lot to begin with, especially if that amounts to only 30% of his stack. Your open shove from UTG doesn't even look that strong anyway. I mean, how often do you just have QJ suited and you're afraid of the blinds next hand and feel like this is the best chance you have to double up into something meaningful? Probably pretty often to be honest. Why do you think they "know" they're super dominated? How do they have 7 behind them? I thought you were UTG or one off? Was the guy directly to your left? His play wasn't great, but it wasn't THAT garbage.
Pretty good cashing rate llama, I remember we actually played together back then.
a 10 is a pretty strong hand.. u shove 30% my stack and unless the table we're at i feel like EVERYONE is going to call i'm going to call you..
u said u have KK?? i have an A i'm not going to put u on AA because that's low chance 3 a coming out on top the deck..
i'm not sure how that's really loose. unless i got someone who i think is gonna call whose gonna put me in over 50% my stack or more i'mma call that all day like i said.
and if there suited i ain't thinking about nothing else but calling. that's just me though i am not a real loose player but shit it's a 100$ tourney.
its like people playing 2/4 limit tryna bet you outta the pot. low stakes i'mma play looser. plus ur 15 blinds left. anything two face cards i'd go all in ur posotion. shit i'll go all in on A anything but 678
I don't know exactly what his stack was. I should've been paying attention to that, I just knew it was a lot more than mine. Blinds were 300/600 and he had close to 30k probably. And the small blind woke up with AJ so he ended up losing that. I still think A10 isn't good for just a call. That's just me
I'm with you here, Twitchy. You haven't given all the information, but that sounds like a super loose call from UTG+1 if it is was for 30% of his stack. If he was one of the last to act then it's a fine call I guess, but there was a ton of people behind him. If someone reraises behind him then he's probably up against two better hands and completely dominated, so depending on that reraise he's either folding 30% of his stack or risking the majority of it in a bad spot. That turned out to be close to what happened. I would have thrown away A10 without a second thought it that spot, it's just way too easy to be dominated with that hand.
The AJ probably shouldn't have called either, but idk what his stack was and maybe he thought the A10 guy was loose/weak. Woulda been nice to see you triple up off those guys.
