Ehh, wrong. Its actually better keeping your 360 horizontally. I would know, I mod A LOT of 360s. Not software mods though, just customize them to people's specifications and add cooling mods to make them rrod proof. When you keep it vertical, the vents on the non-hdd side are covered, if they're covered, then they can't suck in fresh air to cool up the xbox up a bit before leaving through the back. When you have it horizonally, the air that gets sucked in adds some bit of "cold" air (compared to the hot air inside the 360) thus cooling the heatsinks before the air gets propelled out the back by the fans. I have tested the temps with a thermometer having my 360 horizonally, and vertically, and when my "jasper" is horizonal, the temps under my heatsinks are about 7-10 degrees cooler than it being vertical. When I have the A.C on, it can be anywhere from 10-18 degrees cooler.
Just letting you guys know so that people don't start making their 360 stand vertical.
